ABV: 4.3%. Clear light dark brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark malt, chocolate malt, nutty, dusty. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration, malt bitter, sweet malt, dark malt, chocolate malt, smoke - ash - oak notes. IMO: a bit odd ! Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20180807]

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Almost clear amber - brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, modest fine carbonation. Mildly sweet brown malts, little earthyness. Touch of tangy fruits. Esters. Dry finish brings a suggestion of wood. No oaky goodness here.

21/3/2018. Tap at Pitt Cue. Pours clear mid to dark brown with a small off-white to beige head. Aroma of nut, malt, caramel, hint of chocolate, wood and dried fruit. Moderate sweetness, quite light bitterness. Medium to full body, slight oily texture, very soft carbonation. A decent brown ale.

Cask at the rake. A dark reddy copper coloured pour with a fading tan head. Aroma is sweet nutty malts, some dried fruits, vague vanilla, some twiggy bark. Flavour is composed of medium sweet layered malts, nutty toffee with a little woody character. Some dried apple and cake. Palate is semi sweet, moderate cask condition. A little cloying. Lingering pinch of roasted bread.

Cask at the Rake. It pours dark brown with a tiny white film. The aroma is rich, smoke malts, mellow vanilla, toffee, date, leather and oak. The taste is bitter, rather woody upfront, malt loaf, smoked maltage, leather and chewy aspect with a pretty drying woody finish. Medium body and lowish carbonation. A bit chewy and a touch flat, although I rather like the aroma. Would love to try this on keg with more carbonation.
