Bomber @ Benzai's Anti-Carnival Valentine's Day Tasting, Feb 26. Pours dark, tan head. Doesn't mess about this. Very satisfying balanced flavours.. not too full on, excellent restraint.. great subtlety of flavours with emerging hints of chocolate and even distant dark toffee... Very nice indeed.

2020 16 oz can from Kern River Chevron given to me by my son Enniskillen. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, and a hint of licorice. Syrupy black brew with a small cinnamon tan head. Flavor is sweet vanilla caramels coated with chocolate. Really nice stuff!

650 ml bottle. The beer is black with a small tan head. The aroma has light caramel against a background of roast. It’s mostly caramel, though. Burnt sugar, molasses, a little dough. Taste is odd. Very low on chocolate. Good amount of sweetness. Lots of caramel. However, there’s a very strong roast flavor, after the initial hit and it builds into the finish. Finish is all roast bitterness. Much too roasty for me. No chocolate middle to even things out. Just all light caramel and heavy roast. Medium body, not very thick for the abv. Not much booze or off flavors. Really not my favorite take on the genre. The roast is just heavy, almost acrid.

Sample at the brewpub. Brown-black color with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually to a dense film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, vanilla, chocolate malt and coffee. The finish is slightly boozy with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Tap at Track 7 2nd Invitational. Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, anise and burnt malt. Full bodied or better! Flavor is chocolate, dark burnt malt, touch of anise. Hint of coffee? Drink this and fall down. It’s stunning and excellent.
