Our brand new citrus IPA is exploding with bright citrus aroma and flavor. Creating an exciting new variation on our flagship Loose Cannon, TropiCannon clocks in at the same 7.25%ABV as its cousin, but packs a full blast of blood orange, grapefruit, mango and lemon flavor. We’ve downplayed some of Loose Cannon’s piney-ness and amped up the citrus by swapping Centennial and Palisade hops for Amarillo and even more Simcoe. We’ve introduced dried grapefruit, orange and lemon peel in the brewing process and added mango, blood orange and more grapefruit post-fermentation.

Crisp, copper coloured body with a nice thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of ridiculously strong pungent tropical fruits, oranges, mangoes, papaya, limes and grapefruits. Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour at first with a pungent malt kick and a ton of hops right behind leaving behind a bunch of bitterness, but then the fruitiness completely takes over with grapefruit, oranges, limes, lemons, grass, mangoes and even some resin tucked away in this one, but the bitterness is intense along with the alcohol, which does show strongly. Aftertaste shows some bitterness from all the hops, a good deal of fruit from the residual unfinished sugars and a lot of grapefruity funk and alcohol pungency as well. Overall, perhaps the strongest fruity IPA i’ve had in terms of actual fruit flavours, but the bitterness here from the combination of grapefruit, oranges and hop cones is intense, in a good way! Great to try and well worth sampling if you can get it! I sampled this 32 ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 28-January-2017 for US$5,00 (best deal in Washington) sampled at home in Washington on 29-January-2017.

Hazy bronze pour with a khaki head and decent retention. Spotty lacing. Strong citrus/grapefruit nose. Crisp mouthfeel. Taste is a good blend of orange, grapefruit and hops. Not as bitter as expected. 7.25 ABV is faintly evident as it warms.

bottle - Pours copper with a one finger white head. The aroma is bursting with mango and citrus with a big dose of hops apparent. The flavor has loads of mango and citrus too and an assertive crisp hops kick to go with solid malt sweetness. This is a delicious medium bodied brew, definitely my favorite of the "fruity" IPAs that have been coming out lately. Excellent.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 8/24/2016. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge mango, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, light pine, honey, toasted bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops, fruit juice/peels, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge mango, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, light pine, honey, toasted bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of mango, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, fruit juice/peels, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop/fruit notes lingering after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from hop/citrus peel bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and fairly creamy/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, fruit juice/peels, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
