Cask at Square Bottle, Chester. Pours a dark brown with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. There’s malts and dark fruits in the aroma. Malts to the fore in the mouth where it is sweet and creamy. Plenty of chocolate too and some vanilla plus traces of dark berry fruits lster leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is nice and quite interesting – but more of an old ale than a bitter methinks.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A reddish chestnut coloured pour with a tight beige head; silky smooth with a grainy taste; and a dry finish with a fresh hoppy bitterness. An unexceptional dark bitter.
