Taste tradition with a modern twist. Brewer Andy Thomas said ‘We are very excited to be using Olicana in our special one-off 175 beer. We have used Olicana before and loved brewing with it for its tropical and floral notes. This variety in our eyes is on another level. We’ve combined it with Goldings, the UK’s oldest variety and Fuggles, a mainstay of our Hooky beers over the years. It’s great to continue our longstanding association with Charles Faram.

Bottle at home picked up from the brewery on my birthday weekend in April. Drunk now because it's just past it's BB date. Well chilled and a little hazy in the glass. A really English pale ale with lots of bitter hops that cut across the palate. Nice.

Cask at Montgomerys Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours golden yellow with a small almost white head and good lacing. There’s malts and citrus in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet and juicy with plenty of citrus, but also some old school hoppiness. Hints of marmalade, passion fruit and ginger later as well. Some fruitiness in the finish. This is reasonable – more a golden ale than a pale though.

Clear and golden with a frothy white head and a soft sweet citrus aroma. Light to medium bodied with marmalade bitterness, a touch of chewy malt and some floral hop character, finishes dry and bittersweet

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A pale amber pour with a tight white head; gentle fruity aroma, hard to identify; but a big passion fruit taste that makes it obvious; then a long dry finish with some bready malts and grapefruit pith. Very, very, tasty.
