Kees caramel fudge stout is a favourite across all the staff at North, so when it came to collaborating with the famed dark wizards the choice of what we should brew together was quite easy.
Here we’ve brewed a big 10% imperial stout with a complex malt grist using eight different malts, caramel in the boil and coffee and cocoa nibs in the fermentor. The beer has a big nose of creamy tiramisu, an incredibly smooth and silky body and a balanced sweetness to carry these heavyweight flavours. Flavours of rich chocolate, sweet cherries from the mildly roasted coffee and clean oak from the cocoa nibs make this beer a perfect aperitif or pudding substitute.

330ml can. Pours almost black with a big tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast malts. Taste of dark chocolate, roast malts, some dried fruits, light spice, hint of smoke, brown sugar, mostly on the sweet side with a light bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation.

Black beer, light brown head. Rich chocolate, coffee and malt smell. Flavour follows similar lines with a bit of toasty malt balancing out the sweetness of the chocolate. The coffee really comes through as you go through it and it lingers in the aftertaste. This is rich, hefty, stouty goodness.

33 cl psychedelic can from Más que cervezas, Madrid (they open every single day of the year, man!) OK, back to business: it pours super dark caramel-mahogany, almost pitch black, with virtually no head (yeah, there's like a second in which you behold a magnificent brown foamy one, but it lingers zilch, so forget about it.) Aroma is caramel, smoke, leather, coffee (espresso, of course), toffee, bacon, cola syrup. Quite nice and rich. Powerful, alcoholic and very bitter, yet well balanced due to a nice, fresh acidity (yet not zesty, do not misunderstand this statement.) Very long persistence with beautiful reminiscences of black plums and Cuban cigars. Quite fine by me.

Keg at MK's Vauxhall. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The aroma is umami, liquorice, tobacco, smoked aspect, rich roasted malt, meaty, touch of treacle and charred wood. The taste is dry, bitter, rich roasted malt, smoked action, earthy, tobacco, varnish, dark fruits, cacao and warming alcohol with a drying and toothy finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Decent enough.

Can from Beer Cave. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aromas of liquorice and chocolate. Taste has coffee, smoke, tar, dark chocolate. Fir the oats added, I find it a little thin. Bit of dark sugar on the finish.
