75cl bottle bottled in 2016 No stated best before date aroma of yeast, fart, fainter fruity notes. the fart is hard to ignore. (sulphuric note) After some air the sulphuric note becomes more earthy and leathery, the tart sour beery fruity notes comes more into play. Flavor is very pleasingly citrussy sour with fainter notes of leather. almost too one-sided citrussy sour, so not THAT much complexity, but the sourness is very refreshing and comes with a high drinkability.

Draught at Dok Brewing Company, a remainder of their San Diego-themed evening last weekend; sour ale with pineapple by this fairly renowned San Diego brewery. Snow white, quickly thinning and opening, moussy 'ring' lacing in shreds over a pale hazy straw blonde beer with olive greenish hue. Aroma strongly reminiscent of little 'Zwan' sausages and the liquid they are conserved in, as well as the liquid from a jar of sweet pickled gherkins, but pineapple (as in: canned pineapple slices) pierces through as well, next to notes of apple vinegar, pickled lemons, tomato juice, green apple, lemon zest, sourdough, vague Sauerkraut. Puckering acidic onset, pickled lemons and pickled pineapple if such a thing exists, apple vinegar, gherkins, soapy wheat base largely dried by ongoing sourness; very strong effect of the 'juice' from a jar of pickled gherkins in the end, again with the sweet pineapple piercing through but not quite winning from it; ends dryingly acidic but not harshly burning, softening down in the end as it were, with a soapy and chalky note to it. Almost fruited Berliner Weisse-like, with its relatively 'simple' sourness, but drinkable, even if the pineapple is a bit overshadowed by vinegary effects. Still, as usual with this kind of beers, I am left wondering how 'saison' became synonymous with 'sour ale' in the Anglo-Saxon craft beer world...
