4 oz. Draft at the brewery. Nearly pitch black in color. Aromas of coffee and chocolate with subtle smoke.
Taste thankfully is low on smoke (which for me is a great thing). Chocolate, roasted malt backbone. Palate is medium to thicker with a stout or porter quality. Overall very nice example of a smoke beer that isn’t overwhelming in the smoke department.

Draught at the brewery, 5/4/16.
Medium mahogany with a bit of chill-haze and a beige head atop showing moderate retention.
Soft smoke mixes with lightly sweet baker’s chocolate and touches of brown bread. Light red fruitiness and lingering vanilla with no flaw or alcohol. Smoke is aromatic but this isn’t a bacon beer.
Really nicely balanced with the smokiness. Seems quite approachable even if you’re not a huge fan of the style. To the diehard fan (like myself), I can still respect the restraint. There’s black pepper, light campfire and a touch of saltiness. Milk chocolate-like maltiness adds a fair amount of sweetness, maybe just a touch too much for my liking, but it’s not by much and the soft texture and engaging carbonation still keep it very drinkable. Low on the breadiness with pepper, vanilla and woodsmoke lingering.
