Enjoyed on our trip to Maine, April 2018. Pours a clean golden colour with a white cap and light lace. Caramel base aromas with banana notes. Taste of brown malts with herbal bitterness some smokey wood hints from the mandarina hops.

Draught at the brewery, 4/15/17.
Clear, bright lemon-rind golden with stronger copper-golden hues and a medium-sized white head showing moderate retention.
Spicy and lemon-tinted mandarina in the nose add a bit of woodiness and light lime as well. Pepper and light tangerine, as well, with moderately rich honey and light caramel from the malts backing it and balancing easily. Clean and not boozy with fairly low fruitiness and just packed with malt and hop notes.
Lightly sweet with low, somewhat engaging carbonation that could actually be tightened up a bit to help alleviate some of the sweetness. Not that a good heller bock shouldnt be richly malted, but despite that fact, it still gets just a bit bogged down in rich honey, vanilla and white bread as the hops add some slightly punchy bitterness and rather dry, borderline dull lime and lemon zest. Some pepper, light warmth and bits of yellow fruits linger on the finish. Clean, though and if you still count mandarina as a non-IPA hop, fairly traditional but it’s very rough around the edges (though obviously lagered properly).

Can from 7/11 Brilliantly clear deep golden color with a good sized bubbly white head that slowly recedes. Sweet bready lightly toasty on the nose with hints of banana and earthy floral almost smokey hops. Rich toasty malt flavor with bits of bread and a light alcohol note. Moderate bitterness with an earthy smokey fruity hop flavor. Interesting beer, pretty tasty but I find this hop doesn’t agree with my taste buds.

16 oz. can purchased at Spruce Creek Provisions. Color is a deep, crystal clear straw appearance. Aroma has sweet grain, white bread and lager yeast. Smell is spot on a authentic German Helles.

The flavor is sweet grain with some mild grass. The yeast shows we’ll through the the center of the sip. Light bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel is maybe a tad heavier than the authentic German Helles and the hop profile isn’t any bolder than any other Helles. Very good for the style.
