Draught at the brewery, 10/14/16.
Lightly hazy, pale, flaxen-golden body shows shimmering effervescence and a small, but fairly well-retained head, for the style.
The first thing I smell is a touch of lovely sulfur followed by light salinity mixing with a lemon-tinged acidity. Delicate honey, bits of floral notes and very soft smoke sit on the end. Citrus, smoke, salt and sulfur don’t sound like the best combo, but it works for me, at least.
In the mouth it’s got gentle, but tight carbonation and a very dry body with remnants of base malt providing a light honey sweetness. Easygoing salinity and light to moderate lactic acidity with a soft citrus and peppery smoke character that don’t clash. Wheat-like textures on the finish provide substance while the acidity keeps it crisp and bright. Really nice take, though maybe I’m a bit biased due to my irrational love of sulfur.

4 oz. sample at the source. Crystal clear gold color. Aroma is mild sour wheat, lemon hints, notes of smoked meats.

Thankfully the smoked meat hint is low but I still get a hint of cured sausage. Lemon sourness and other citrus does help the overall profile. Not a style I reach for often. However, I can see the appeal for some people. It is what the style calls for.
