Polotmavy is a hoppy amber lager that is all about the malt. It has a full flavor yet dry finish, toasted aroma yet floral hops, and a malty yet spicy flavor. So OK, it’s about the hops too. 100% Czech Saaz hops. Polotmavy is loosely translated as "half-dark" or amber as we know it, and is yet another style of Czech beer rarely found in the US. Na zdraví!

Dimpled mug at Shelter pours a clear treacle amber with some creamy white head. Nose is malt and honey and some yeast and dough. Flavor is so solid, light root veg, bread and dough and some Heirloom corn. Finishes dry, medium bodied, a little creamy.

On tap at Birreria Volo, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt, some herbaceous notes, and a hint of toasted caramel. Flavour is pretty much identical, with lots of bready malt and a herbaceous quality. This doesn't stack up to Czech polotmavys, but it's nice to see the ambition. Okay.

Huge thanks to Chalumeaux for getting this to me I’ve tried to acquire last couple fall’s to no avail. Lovely bright chestnut and frothy head. Nose is toasted caramel some dough. Tastes of dried leaf, light caramel, doughy, toast. Dry palate. Quite good not sure what other noteworthy American made polotmavys are left for me to seek out.

Keg at IMBC 2018, session 5. Pours clear copper with a small, foamy crown. Nice stuff, basic, toasted cereal, orange peel. Light bodied with average carbonation. Dry finish, lightly bitter, more toasted cereal. Nice one.

Keg at IMBC. It pours rich copper with a thick foamy white head. The aroma is malt driven, brown bread, sticky, toffee, toasted nut and light spice. The taste is dry, bitter, leather, brown bread, toasted nut, wood, bit of alcohol, spice and leather with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent. Nice malty lagerbier.
