We all know that nobody ever got anywhere in life by playing it too safe. Our burning desire to constantly produce bigger and better beers has resulted in nearly 2 kilos of hops per barrel of beverage and one beast of a brew. Here’s to the motivators, the risk takers and the achievers. Here’s to ‘Pushing Boundaries’.

330ml can from Ghost Whale. Sweet, caramely malty and grassy hoppy with some pine, earthiness and herbal notes. Quite generic.

Can bought from the Ale Stone, Aylstone, drunk at home. Dark gold, cloudy with a large off-white head. Dank hop smell with lots of pineapple and melon. Bitter taste undercut by a creamy sweetness. Finish turns more bitter without becoming too intense. More pineapple juice in the aftertaste. Carbonation is heavy. A gorgeous DIPA.

330ml Can - Hazy amber with a foamy head. Peach, mango and orange in the aroma. Peach, sultanas, mango, orange peel and grapefruit in the taste. Quite subdued compared to what I was expecting but not bad.

Leeds Beer Festival 2017. Amber-blonde and it doesn’t quite feel its strength - its smooth texture probably accounts for this. There’s some fruits too.

Can. Hazy amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with decent fine carbonation. Light malts, nice light creamy sweetness. Hops are a nice mix of orange peel, soft skunk, mellow pine, mild spice and touches of fresh orange and tangerine. Mild bitterness on the finish. Pretty good but for a DIPA to be outstanding at the moment it has to be exceptional.
