Florentine Milk Stout

Fairytale of Brew York 2024 takes inspiration from the beloved festive treat of Florentine. This year our festive stout is a super rich milk stout with flavours of pistachio and cherry. Additional lactose adds a rich creamy body to our annual Christmas stout. Be sure to check out this year's other seasonal brews; Dreams of Brew York and Nightmare of Brew York.

Not the most exciting of editions of this annual stout, but solid enough. Just not picking up the flavours too well. Cherry is perhaps most prominent.

440ml can. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, light chocolate. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, with a light, slightly watery, roasty, chocolate, light creamy, light ashtray, liquorice bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Light, watery, not particularly tasty and frankly disappointing.

440ml can. Pours very dark black with a moderate tan head. Nutty chocolate aroma, flavour is chocolate, nuts, not much cherry but I'm not mad about that

Hand-pulled third of a pint in The Boot on 16th December 2024. Soft beige head on a dark brown body. Pretty sweet Stout with a nutty feel to the flavour, smooth chocolate base, didn't get any cherry though.

Black beer with a tan head and nutty smell. Flavour is nutty too, with a hint of cherry, some dark chocolate, a bit of toasty malt. Decent body, good nutty finish. Solid.

440ml can as a gift, possibly from HoTM in York. Drunk at home. Dark brown, mostly opaque with a small ring of khaki head. Getting a fair bit of the pistachio, plus some chocolate syrup. Taste is just the right amount of sweet: chocolatey and slightly nutty with some hop bitterness at the finish. Some more pistachio in the aftertaste. It's not anything out of the ordinary, but it's a decent flavoured stout.

440ml can bought at Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge. Tight fawn-coloured head leaving scattered lacing on the glass, deep black in the glass. Inviting smell of chocolate and berries. Fine balanced taste profile of cherry-chocolate supported by hints of almond and biscuit, light lactose backbone. Mid-sweet cherry-chocolate finish. Soft on the swallow. Pretty decent.
