Clear golden and lightly copper coloured body with a thinnish, fast-dying off-white head. Aroma of light malt, a touch of caster sugar and perhaps the smallest amount of fruit around - but not necessarily watermelons. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour at first with some grain, malt, metal and a bit of funk noticeable. Aftertaste shows some light watermelon and fruit notes, but they have to battle out the malt and alcohol more than anything else. Overall, a decent beer at best with some light fruit notes, but more funk, alcohol and bitterness than anything else. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Falls Church, Virginia on 16-June-2016 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 01-September-2016.

2017-05-06, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, as New Belgium Heavy Melon, 5-4-5-2-9=25
Hazy golden color, creamy head. Light fruity aroma, dry and weak mouthfeel, some cucumber water, hint of rotten melon, mild astringency in the final.
Not very good.

Hazy blond color. Very shallow beer, dry and no bitterness, with a not of cheese in the aroma and possibly a watermelon touch.
Poor.

Hazy light amber. Has a melon nose, light body, melon taste. Quick finish. Bland, not a whole lot going on, really. When you absolutely have to release a new beer this week and have no good ideas left.

On tap at St. Augustine’s during New Belgium 25th anniversary celebration. Pours a clear golden with a white head. Non-intense aroma is malty, with some watermelon notes. Taste character is pretty the same. Not bad. Refreshing, drinkable.

16 oz. Draft at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia PA. Color is a slightly hazy golden with weak head and lace. Aroma is cantaloupe and weak malt.
Flavor as it warms becomes a mixture of watermelon and cantaloupe followed by a lightly sugary finish. Doesn’t become syrupy and can quench your thirst during a hot August afternoon. Nothing special at all but not nearly as bad as I was anticipating.

Bottle. Smells like a typical light nosed fruit beer. Looks rather appealing, with its bubbly co2 and thin creamy head. Beer is rather mild, can’t really tell it has watermelon or lime in it, at least at first. Compared tot he appearance of co2 in teh brew, this stuff is rather flat and disappointing on the palate. Easy going & mild and I typically like those kinds of beers but this is just not really attractive in its presentation to the buds. Different for a change and not really what I was expecting.

Aroma is hay, malt, blonde tobacco and not bad, but no melon. Flavor does have a hint of melon, but is basically bland. Body is watery. Finish reminds me of having had a drink of water.

Bottle shared @ ChrisO after GBBF Day 2. Clear golden color, small to average sized white head. Smell and taste only lightly melon. Slightly a sweet touch, but quite watery. It is refreshing though, so I don’t dislike it. Oh well, ok beer.
