The Civic Standard provides the citizens of Hardwick, Vt., and its surrounding communities, with an excuse to get together. It is an honest and humble effort to tear down barriers between neighbors and to build a more resilient community through a shared culture.

Many of Vermont’s traditional cultural organizing bodies have closed or faded from prominence. Without those, we have lost traditions that have made us feel accountable to each other and the greater good. The Civic Standard is rejuvenating those traditions and working with our community to create more. Growing a shared and civically- minded culture is essential to the survival of our small, rural communities.

In the spirit of The Civic Standard, its mission, and our commitment to our community and neighbors, we present its namesake beer, a sensible, enlivening pale ale hopped with Amarillo® and Citra® hops. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this beer by Hill Farmstead Brewery will be donated to The Civic Standard to bolster its efforts in ongoing flood recovery and strengthening community interconnectedness.

750 ml growler, Thank you Clarkvv. Aroma is mild bready malt and orange zest. Flavor has bready malt base with grapefruit and orange zest. Very subtle tropical fruit notes. Balanced by herb like bitterness. Well made.

Growler pour shared by ClarkVV--thanks, Clark! at OT Camp tasting. Hazy dark yellow-light brown, ring of head, trace lacing. Aroma is strong citrus and grapefruit. Taste follows aroma. Smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste with mild lingering bitterness. Love the mission behind this beer. Well done but nothing groundbreaking.

Can picked up at Hill Farmstead. It pours hazy golden - yellow with a decent fluffy white cap. The aroma is soft, fresh, clean, bright, orangy fruits, peach pie, orange marmalade, dried apricot, juicy and some gummy candy. The taste is initially has some dryness to it then softens, some green hops, pithy, zesty, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, bitter snappy, orange blossom, some spiciness, cracker and bread with a dry, pithy finale. Medium body and soft, fluffy carbonation. Rounded and quaffable. Very solid APA, not heir best but still very nice.

Pours a lightly hazy, peach-orange color, with smallish head. Aroma is a touch spicy, with some grass, bread, citrus. Flavor follows. Rather hoppy, bitter finish. Mouthfeel seems just a touch thin for the style.

Canned 7/17/23, drunk 8/10 and 8/16/23. Moderately hazy, tangerine-brass. White head, medium, quick to ring. Juicy citrus and woody, spicy Amarillo with cracker and honey from malt and soft mineral from water and yeast. Clean, polished, juicy, plentiful deep malts, well-attenuated with spice, chalk and heavy mineral finish. Juicy and great, balanced bitterness lingering.
