This week we’re bringing back The Minus Times: Pacific Lager, a beer which draws inspiration from lagers brewed throughout the Pacific Ocean.
For this lager, we started the brew with Pilsen malt and a bit of flaked corn and rice, followed by the use of Motueka from New Zealand. We utilized our favorite Mexican-lager yeast, and then cold conditioned this one for 6 weeks. Crisp, bright, refreshing, with a balanced hop bitterness meshing nicely with subtle lime and notes of citrus pith.

Can to stange glass.
Appearance: chill haze yellow color with a three finger white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: citrusy hop tones, some herbal then lime with a crackery malt backbone
Flavor: combines the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to light zesty toned quality underscored by some malts; finishes zesty and citrusy with a little dry speck
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable; good smoothness with a little snappy pop of that zest over the tongue but not enough to warrant any distracting qualities
Overall: seems like a good New Zealand pilsener to come back to.

Canned 4/23/24, drunk 5/26/24. Clear, light brass. Small, white head, low retention. Malty, interestingly fruity nose. Mineral, herb, light honey-like malt. Bit of dough. Soft, malty, quite malty actually. Fruity, herbal. Rich honey and biscuit but well-attenuated. As usual, the Minus Times continues to very much impress.

16 oz can. Aroma and flavor are pils malt and soft lime-ish citrus. Light body with a nice lingering lime lake finish. Texture is really crisp extremely easy drinking on a warm summer day. Or in my case, a warm fall day. Well made.
