Bottle shared at Chris and Ruth Pre-GBBF 2017 tasting - London. Cheers! BB 1995. Pours clear, rich brown with a light, bubbly head. Meaty aroma, some salty beef, toffee, dried berries. Medium sweet with more charred meat, faintly tangy, some dried leathery berries, earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Softly warming finish, salty, earthy, more leather. Novel. Shows its age but not bad overall.

Bottle at C&R Pre-GBBF Tasting 2017. Cheers Leighton! It pours darkest brown with no head. The aroma is rich, oily, malt – driven, treacle, fruit cake, raisin, sultana, bit of marmite, Bovril/gravy and dried fruits. The taste is tangy, fruity, dried fruits, treacle, meaty/gravy, plum, Dandelion & Burdock, prune and vinous aspect. Medium body, limited carbonation and oily mouth-feel. I know it is a bit sour, but that adds character. Pretty interesting for an aged beer.

The great pre GBBF bottleshare at ChrisO’s. Hazy deep amber - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, modest carbonation. Tangy malts with heavy oxidisation. Loads of tired caramel. Some bitterness still here. Touch of ripe fruits. Worth a punt but unlike the other 20+ year old Ballards BW opened tonight - this one is pretty knackered.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s and Ruth pre GBBF shindig, August 5, 2017. Dark amber pour. Nose is stuffy caramel, quite nicely developed deep caramel aroma. Tastes a bit sourish, these dark sweet fruits gone a bit sour in these more than 20 years of ageing. Definitely an experience.
