Slumbering in the nourishing nest of a fresh, unrinsed Burgundy red wine barrel, Gyle 100 inhales deeply on the rich red fruit notes and woody complexity, with drying, lasting tannins.

Tap at CBC 2016 Green session, poured a clear reddish brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is vinous, roasty malt. The flavour is moderate to light sweet with a crisp, sharp vinous, light alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Keg at the brewery. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Tangy dark malts, offset by mild creamy sweetness. There is a reasonable red wine tang here. A light and slightly savoury finish. Nice beer but the barrelling is a little polite for me.

Bottle from Eebria, consumed at Isobels, Eardisley, Herefordshire, Thursday ’New Years Eve’ 31st December 2015 Pours dark brown with a scummy head, the red wine barrel ageing does show with a definite fruity grapey tartness, it’s a little dry. The roastiness and some chocolatey flavours do show but I think that the Sherry version is the best so far. A7 A4 T7 P3 T7 Ov14 3.5

Keg at the #arch, 04/12/15. Light black with a well appointed dirty beige head. Nose is rich dark fruit, earthy, red berry, light chocolate. Taste comprises bitter red berry, toffee, light charr, fruit cake, subtle red wine notes, raisens, cocoa powder. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Well balanced porter, subtle barrel, masks the hefty ABV well.
