Tap at the Berkeley venue. Pours dark brown with a slight beige head. Aroma is very roasty darkish malt. Med + body. Flavor is moderately dark malty, earthy, surprisingly dry. It’’s malty, but not very sweet at all. Not really bitter either. It’s a good drink.

Tap. Pours hazy deep reddish chestnut, small beige head, sine lacing. Aroma is super light, a bit of roasty and dark bread. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, roasty, dark bread, a bit nutty, kind of acidic, faintly smoky. Lightish body. Not bad.

12 oz bottle from the winter variety pack. Aroma is bready, roasty, dark fruit. Pours hazy dark amber with a collapsing beige head. Taste is sweet, savory and a little tart with flavors of licorice, metal, bread, caramel. The metal offnote goes away after a few minutes, leaving a pretty decent tasting brew. Creamy and medium-bodied. Not too bad, even with its flaws.

From bottle to wine glass. Moderate malt on the aroma. Biscuit. Clear chestnut with full white head. The flavor is moderately low malt with faint dark fruit. No alcohol warming. Beer finished with a medium-thin mouthfeel and quickly. Expected much more malt.
