Made famous by the breweries of San Francisco and often referred to as a Steam Beer, California Common is a West Coast amber ale fermented with a lager yeast. Caramel maltiness harmonises with fruity hop characteristics to create a medium level of bitterness and a smooth finish.

Cask (handpump) @ The White Lion, 24 James Street, Covent Garden, Greater London, England WC2E 8NS. [ As Roosters California Common ].Clear medium orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, biscuit malt, caramel, light to moderate hoppy, citrus, fruity hops. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration, fruity hops, pale malt, sweet malt, caramel, citrus, fruity. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. Keg at the Hop Beer Shop, Chelmsford. Pours dark gold with a small white head. Aroma of hop, fruit, caramel, yeast and bread. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness, touch of sour. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Sweet caramel finish.

Cask handpull at The Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell. Clear amber colour lasting white head. Light mild malt beer light hops. Drinkable. Just very light aceoss the board. Ok though

Cask at Beer Hunters. Clear copper color, small off-white head. Light-bodied. Dry, woody, piney flavor. Nice hoppyness for California Common but lacks usual fruityness of this style. Simple.

Craft 100. Clapham. Cask. Clear gold beer, no head. Mild sulphur notes. Palate is dry and has reasonable fine carbonation. Light pale malts, mild citric hop, touches of orange and orange peel. Dry finish. A bit wishy washy.

Gravity dispense at Craft 100, 06/10/16. Golden orange with a moderately appointed off white cap. Nose is toasted grains, orange peel, straw, light cheese. Taste comprises citric rinds, farty tones, a little green and raw, crackers, grains. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Medicore even for style!

Tried attention Carinals Hat, Lincoln. Golden colour with a white head. Aroma is malty grain and soft fruit. Taste is light sweet to mid bitter. Medium body.

Cask @ Terrace NQ, Manchester. Golden with a thin head. Has a nice steam Beer styling, light and easy-drinking without feeling weak or thin. Lightly malty in both aroma and taste with a lower bitterness.
