This beer’s so brown it’s made us go all 1970s. Rich, robust & warming with an array of malts, fermented with a lager yeast for a sweet-yet-dry finish. Best enjoyed with a packet of Spangles, sitting astride a space-hopper.

Can. Nose is earthy, chocolate, hint of caramel, light roast, hint of savoury/umami, touch of blackcurrant. Taste is chocolate, hazelnut, praline, lots of filter coffee, leading to dark fruit, prunes, touch of licorice and spice in the slightly too sticky finish. Well balanced, and very enjoyable; always nice to see a baltic porter.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours pretty much black with a thick, sturdy tan head. The aroma is earthy roast, dark chocolate, nutty, praline, umami, coffee grounds, ferrero rocher and a touch of liquorice. The taste is initially dry, dried fruits, prune, raisin, sultana, fruit cake, bitter - sweet, earthy roast, toothy, umami, chewy, liquorice, peppery spice, toasted nuts, praline, coffee grounds, cacao and a touch of alcohol. Fulsome body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A nice example of the style.

Black beer, thick foamy tan head. Strong malty aroma with a little hop. Flavour has toasty malt, a touch of anise, some dark chocolate, a little brown sugar and some hops coming in the back end. Nicely balanced, rich smooth and a nice bittersweet finish.
