Bottle at Huppel The Pub, Den Haag. Poured a dark cloudy brown with a thick long lasting tan head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is dry doughy and malty. The flavour is bitter with liquorice and surprisingly some fruity notes on the palate. Not a classic and Jopen can do better, but still very drinkable.

33 cl. bottle @ Gollem // kind of like the colour pallet of the label but i am having difficulties accepting the glass which looks like a cola glass or an oversized test-tube with Jopen written on it in a Gothic letter type, probably the least appropriate glass for a stout that I have ever seen // black but not the darkest shard of black imaginable, small, mocha head // smells of burned toast, burned malts & grains, coffee, not that much smell // taste is frankly not that good, fact that I never quite liked Guinness probably doesn’t help here because that is the direction that they were aiming for, bitter coffee, burned toast, bitter grainy, grainy coffee, roasted malts, weird sweetness, some sweet malts & caramel, like old crumbling chocolate sweetness, dry finish // going toward watery, this is too light // some people liked it & I suppose if you like Guinness you will like this one as well but this is not particularly enjoyable for me

On tap at β€˜t Arendsnest, Amsterdam 2/6/2012. Black with a decent, off-white head. Coffee, some dark chocolate and a slightly creamy edge, heading to a decent, dry finish. Good.
