Bottle, courtesy of my wife's boss. Thin creamy head. The bottle says its an american bitter and there aint no ABV listed on the bottle. Smell is a little cloying sweet. Decent co2 but the initial beef of this is that its quite annoying on the uptake, Very rude, alarmingly bitter is a kind phrase for it. Yes, I guess with its volatile alky attitude, makes it certainly a strong ale. After every pour you get a big giant creamy head that wants to flood over the top. Taste is such a beer nastiness; like whew. Difficult and straight up rude like medicine but ironically not in a hoppy IPA kind of way, hops are suppressed. Its almost all just straight up rude ass bitter astringent. Only consolation is the dull numbing feeling I get once I finish the bottle, makes me almost forget how dastardly this brew really was. Such an insult to the palate. Not impressed.

Bottle. A- Caramel, bready, citrus, pine. A- Burnt orange color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, pine, bitter, grassy, citrus, candy. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, unbalanced finish. O- I don’t really have any good ways to describe this beer, other than it was not to par as far as I felt it should have been. Just felt all over the place.

Bottled. A pale golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw and malt, leading to a dry finish.

12oz bottle. I wouldn’t have associated sheep with an APA, more of a Bock or Scottish Ale thing..whatever....this doesn’t really fit in a style, something like an APA and an American Strong Ale combined. Orange-copper filtered body, thin off-white head. Mild and respectable soapy pine hop aroma. A pretty balanced creature, with big, yet mellow malt tones which plant the hops firmly in the backseat. Some fruity notes, could be amber malt, but maybe just the yeast. Pretty enjoyable beer.

My first beer from this brewer and first from Minnesota. This beer speaks well for the brewer and the Gopher State. I like some hops and malt in a pale ale and it did not disappoint. Bold, malty, hoppy, on the palate holds up on the aftertaste, too. I will look for this again.

On tap at SPSBF. Pours a clear amber with a light brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a nice pine note backed by grapefruit and sweet grains. Flavor has more grapefruit up front that is joined by pine and has a pleasant not too sweet malt backbone.

12 oz bottle purchased at TC Craft Brew in New Hope, Minnesota. Pour is a hazed orange golden with a big fluffly light tan head. Head is quite lasting, eventually falls with coating lacing. Aroma is nice toasted malt, along with some fainter sweet resin. There is perhaps a bit of vanilla cola present as well. Taste is a grainy, resin, mildy bitter hop and malt mix. Finish is earth and mineral, a bit more of the bitterness. Palate is light to medium bodied, lower carbonation, the earthiness lingers and turns dirty in the long finish. This was likely not real fresh, but was also not bottle dated. Bonus point for naming a beer after Sheepshead.

12 oz. bottle from HyVee, Storm Lake, IA. My first encounter with these brewers. Sure, there was a pils and a dark ale on the shelves, but when you see "single batch series" on a label, that’s what you gotta grab. Claims four "spicy" varieties of hops besides the dry-hopping. Pours a rich-looking amber color with a lot of bubbles at the start. Doesn’t kick up much of a head. Smell says "pale ale" indeed, a bit more peppery and hoppy than malty. But the taste is pretty big. I get the impression of German hops, it seems, balanced by a little bit of American piny hops. Slight ale fruitiness noted in this hop-forward beer. Ends up with more malt in the finish.
