3 Johns Black Hole. Keg. Light haze on this gold beer, small white head. Palate is light and semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Thin malts, mildly sweet. Tangy lemon and orange citrus hop. Spruce? On stilts! Okay.

Keg at the Three Johns, 30/10/17. Hazed golden yellow with a decent off white cap. Nose is spruce, straw, musty lemon, grains. Taste comprises lemon tinged straw, light soap, herbal pinch, sprucey wood shavings, crackers, pinch of spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Passable affair but nothing I'd look to revisit.

On keg at Six Degrees North, Edinburgh. Appearance - hazy yellow. Thin head. Nose - definitely some greenery. Also lemon meringue. Taste - lemon meringue again. Dirty yeast note but not unpleasant. Palate - light to medium bodied with a tangy texture. Dry tangy finish. Overall - solid. Interesting too.

Keg at Six Degrees North Aberdeen. It pours hazy yellow with a small white head. The aroma is fragrant, creamy, custard, floral, murray mints, aloe vera and bread. The taste is crisp, dry, minerals, soapy florals, spicy, lime rind, pithy lemon, tannin, straw and soda water with a dry and tannic finish. Light body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A bit thin perhaps, so I’m not sure it carries the spruce as well as it should. Unique for sure, but I prefer the heather and gorse in the series.
