Draft @ FoBAB 2009, Chicago, IL. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon aroma. Sweetish roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor with hints of vanilla and bourbon. Has a sweetish malty vanilla and chocolate finish.

Had this twice (so far), a handbottled version generously shared by MadsBerg and at GABF 2007. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt as well as medium notes of brown sugar, wood, and bourbon. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, bourbon, and soy sauce, leading to a dry bourbon finish. The alcohol leaves a slight burn on the palate.

(Hand bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of madsberg. Pours completely opaque black with a tiny, light brown head. Aroma is of burned malt. Quite a full body rich with burned malts - but hey, what happened to the bourbon? Malt astringent finish. 270607

Deep black stout with a thin moka head. Soy sauce chocolate in aroma, with vanilla again. Smooth in mouth, with sweet chocolate, cold coffee , vanilla and restrained hops, light alcohol warmth. Smooth and warming. On tap at RB, Nov. 12, 2005.

Draft, at RB. Krikey! This stuff is incredible! Poured into a small snifter, it shows the most solid black I’ve ever seen, except for a bit of brown being held hostage at the edge. Head is the color of a brown hen’s egg, before it fades away intro bits of lace. For a beer aged only a few months, this has a wonderfully smooth character. All the alcohol goes for warmth instead of harshness. It’s creamy with vanilla and some Drambuie notes, with just a hint of bitterness in the after taste. It’s only because there should be a little bitter in the style, I think, that I marked it 4.3. It’s a rich taste that really stands out, more like a carbonated liqueur than a beer. Anyone going to GABF should be sure to look for this.
