We like our pastry stouts just how we like our cheesecake; big, thick, sweet, and burnt black! This Basque-style cheesecake beer is just that. Brewed with complex dark malts for flavours of over-caramelised sugar and plenty of lactose, for a creamy and luxurious mouthfeel. Topa!

440ml can bought from the Offie, Leicester and drunk at home. It pours dark brown with a large tight khaki head. Lots of vanilla, cream cheese, chocolate, a little bit of crème brûlée and maybe some coffee beans on the nose. Lovely sweet taste, some intense lactose notes. Sourness nearer the finish. Lighter body than I expected, medium carbonation. Enjoyable.

Black beer, thin off white head. Smell has malt but a bit more lactose than I'd like. Flavour has toasty caramel, a load of vanilla, a nice mix of malt. Lactose here as well, and if anything there's too much of a lingering flavour of that.

Keg at Anchor Tap, Croxley, Herts. An almost black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Sweet, roasty, malty, chocolate, vanilla, maple taste/aroma. Really tasty imperial stout from Yonder and rather hard to believe this is my first rate for this brewery.

Keg at The Taps@Beaconsfield, 16/03/24. Lighter shade of black topped with a khaki head that clears to a swirl. Nose carries chocolate cheesecake vibes, red berry twang, light roast, toffee. Taste comprises coffee, brown sugar sprinkle, mellow roast, vanilla, chocolate shavings. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Tidy well balanced pastry if a touch sweet in places but tempered well enough.
