(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours basically black with a small but stable deep tan head and spotty lace. Aroma of dark caramelized malt with cacao, moderate burnt grains, subtle acidic roast bitterness, ample smoky umami, soft vanilla sweetness, coconut is subtle on the nose and quite dry with a little toast, there's a bit of a dusty yeast quality as well and a little fruity black coffee vibe from somewhere. Flavour is moderately sweet at best, definitely dry for a sweet/pastry stout, with a little caramel attack quickly subsumed by baking chocolate and cacao. Creamy vanilla and light coconut fill in the absent malt sweetness mid-sip, before a dry finish that contains a little umami, some dark berries and dusty grains with a bit of mineral crispness unusual for style but not amiss. Light to medium body, slightly oily to creamy, soft carbonation. Really nice for a 6.5% 'pastry stout' which to it's credit doesn't try to get as sweet as a more typical pastry ABV would be. I might boost the adjuncts a touch in the early Angry Chair way, but nice job.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, vanilla, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol, vanilla, very nice.
