Keg at at Cloisters. It pours darkest red - brown with a decent white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, red berry, jammy, toasty, Victoria sponge and earth. The taste is bitter - sweet, jammy red fruits, charred wood, peppery spice, citrus peel, tar with a slight burnt notes with a dry, charred finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad.

Clear deep red - amber beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth but has good fine carbonation. Light malts, some cream and toffee. Ripe fruits. Touches of spice and floralness. Light finish. I take it hops and whiskey don’t match well then? Tsk!

On cask at the White Lady. Appearance - dark brown to black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - elusive at first, then burnt toffee comes through. Taste - toffee, liquorice, charcoal, burnt molasses. Palate - close to medium bodied with a dry burnt texture through the middle section and this continues through the finish. Overall - quite complex but the burnt note is a bit too persistent to make it truly enjoyable.
