The canelé (or cannelé) is a traditional French pastry from Bordeaux with a soft custard center flavored with vanilla and rum, and a crispy caramelized crust. Vanilla being Rob’s favorite ingredient, we had to turn this delicious treat into a rich dark stout. By freeze-distilling it we intensified it’s rum, vanilla, and caramel flavor and created a beautiful 17% sipper.

Can 44 cl. Pours black and oily leaving a tiny, brown head that dissipates in no time. Rather intense aroma of chocolate and vanilla, and if you take a deep sniff the alcohol feels like something out of a vodka bottle! Surprisingly not much more than medium-bodied, sweet chocolate, vanilla, roast and dark, dried fruits. Not much carbonation. Boozy finish of course, but not overly problematic. And surprisingly drinkable. 220223

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, alcohol, caramel and coffee. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate, coffee and vanilla finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Can shared in Canary Wharf - many thanks to MadMitch. Pours deep brown with a small, foamy tan head. Big and sweet, some well ripened dark fruits, berries, nips of bitter cocoa and ash, some burnt toffee, certainly notes of alcohol. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine to average carbonation. Warming and somewhat sticky in the finish, more dark fruits, light vanilla, booze, soft roast. Great fun as a sipper.

Xmas Boozy Bottleshare. Thanks to me. Can. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, slightly soft, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark chocolate malts, nice creamy sweetness. Plenty of vanilla and a little rich coffee in there. The rum seems a bit of an afterthought. Smooth finish. Drinks like a 10% beer, excellent in that aspect. I wanted more rum.

Can picked up from Dr Molen shop, Utrecht, consumed at Nick and Anna's Borrisdale, Isle of Harris, Scotland, Wednesday 28th September 2022. Pours pitch black with a real thickness in the mouth, dark chocolate, really good quality, some black treacle a little warmth from the abv, but super easy drinking.
