Doppelbock aged 12 months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels
Barrel Aged Past Lords is a 10.5% barrel aged Doppelbock here to keep you warm one sip at a time! We took some of last year's fresh Past Lords and filled Heaven Hill bourbon barrels with it. Over the past 12 months, the barrels have been adding lush bourbon and oak notes as the beer has been developing. This is the extra layer of elegance you deserve this winter!

2025 vintage. Tap at BPBW 2025. Very dark brown, blackish body, off-white head. Got brandyish notes mostly, as the combo of the maltiness and the barrel, oddly enough, with plenty of the caramelly, raisiny but also heavily alcoholic notes in the taste as well. Unusual.

Bottle: Poured a deep dark brown color doppelbock with a medium dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt notes with some dry fruits notes and some vanilla and bourbon notes. Taste is also a good mix of caramelized malt notes with some dry fruits and vanilla and bourbon notes with light residual sugar notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Interesting barrel-aged doppelbock.

Tasting at Ryan's, can 10 Jan 2024, 6 months old
Dark mahogany colour, very small head. The aroma is a bit dusty, light caramel, light vanilla, very light leather. It's just slightly thin for the style, due to the very strong alcohol presence; caramel flavour as a base, bready; the barrel treatment may be detrimental, rather than in favour. It's ok.

16oz (thx, Chris S.!) @ Ryan's. Appearance: dark copper with a tan head. Aroma: dark fruits, some a bit harsh oak. Taste: along the same lines, moderately sweet, a bit boozy. Overall: ok.

Medium brown, slight haze. No head. On the nose, it has a nice little bourbon accent. Has a light nutty caramel note. The bourbon is rather heavy-handed on the palate, and it's a bit hot.
