Our very first commercial beer using chevalier malt, recently brought back to life by Crisp Maltings. Chevalier was used throughout the UK pre war but was then replaced with Maris Otter. We think the beer gains more depth, smoothness and a little sweetness. Hops used are EKG and Challenger.

Cask at the The Anchor Tap, Horsham. Low impact fruit and malts aroma. Clear dark amber. Frothy translucent white head. Light sweet fruitiness. Followed up by light bitterness and then a berry sour edge. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft carbonation. Long dry finish. Very pleasent soft bitter. May score better being the post-Brewhouse & Kitchen beer.

Cask at Pigs’ Ear 2017. It pours clear brown with a medium bubbly white head. The aroma is earthy, wood, leather, dried twiggy stuff, varnish and a touch of caramel. The taste is dry, bitter, wood, leather, varnish, resin, oiliness, caramel/toffee, brown bead and fruit cake. Medium body, fine carbonation and oily mouth – feel. A fairly chewy brown beer. Ok I suppose.
