It took us a long time to get this beer right. Most breweries produce their own version of an American Style IPA and we’re proud with what we’ve accomplished. It takes skill producing a balanced beer to allow the hops to shine through while having enough malt backbone and mouthfeel to hold the higher alcohol. The beer is made with kilos of hops throughout the boil and again dry hopped to add further aroma. Columbus, Chinook, Summit and Citra hops provide the spice, citrus and tangerine characteristics.

Hazed golden color with a white head. Some lacing. Decent intensity in the aroma. Medium (+) body and an ok carbonation. Decent balance between sweetness and bitterness. Tropical, pine, caramel malty, some grassy notes and grapefruit hoppy. Decent tasty ipa.

Moderat hopfiger, leicht merallerner Antrunk. Angenehme milde Würzigkeit, der grasige Hopfen bleibt weitestgehend konstant. Später bitterer werdend, mild malzig im Hintergrund. Nett. 10/10/9/9/8/10

Bottle split at the Leightonators gaff, shared by he, 02/09/14. Clear rich golden with a decent off white head that stays to party. Nose is caramel malt, bitter orange, straw, citric peel, light bread dough. Taste comprises orange pith, straw, hint of grapefruit, less caramel than on the nose, melon. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light hop bitterness. Ok, lacks hop presence for an IPA.

Bottle shared at Leightons house. Crystal clear dull orange with a halo of loose white head. Aroma is dull orange, light biscuit, Nobel hop. Flavour is nice rounded caramel, biscuit, berry jam, nice fruity hop. Palate is medium sweet. Assertive smooth fruity bitterness. Lingering biscuit and jammy dodger.

Bottle shared in London - picked up at London beer Lab. Pours crystal clear orange-gold with a frothy white head. The nose has bready malts, floral notes, light dough, orange. Medium sweet flavor with slight piney bitterness, lightly toasted pale malts, some citrus. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Nicely balanced to finish with simple bready pale malts, some orange peel, flowers, citrus rind. Pretty simple stuff but not bad.

Clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and a little crisp. Light malt, touch of cream. Unexpected touch of smoke! Very light hops - mild tangerine and moderate bitterness. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Drinkable but I don’t want smoke in an IPA and I do want more hops!

Keg at Brick. It pours hazy orange with a thick white head. The nose is orange squash, tangerine, sherbet, earth, dough and marmalade. The taste is bitter, pine, earth, grapefruit, orange peel, resin, hop astringency, dough and light alcohol with a bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good deal of bitterness. Pretty tasty, but not as refined or as drinkable as Sir Thomas Gardyner. Solid though.
