Avaste ye! This batch of Bear Hug was aged in rum barrels with vanilla beans, toasted coconut and a pinch of cinnamon bark. These flavors complement waves of dark rum and chocolate to make this Imperial Stout perfect for pirates or bears, or both.

2019 14.4%. Bottle thanks to Janell. Pours a dark brown with small tan head and coconut flakes. The aroma is strong coconut, vanilla, wood, bourbon. Slick body, coconut, dark chocolate, boozy, held up ok.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a clumpy head that quickly dissolves into a powdery, clumpy film on top of the beer. Aroma has lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa, coconut, rum. Flavor has lots of dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, with some coconut and rum to round it out. Everything works really well together, and nothing is overbearing or overly sweet (though I wouldn't mind a little more rum flavor, personally). Really good.

Bottle from Holiday Market. Pours a pitch black with almost no head and floating coconut pieces on top. Big tropical rum nose with toasted coconut and coconut oil aromas surrounded by cacao nib aromas. A touch of vanilla and coffee notes as it warms. Smooth on the palate, medium body with more rum, coconut and toasted brownie notes. Some cinnamon lingers on the palate at the end with more chocolate, rum and coconut. A homerun from Bell's. Glad I was able to track down a bottle this year.

(Tap sample @ MBCC 2017 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours almost black with a medium tan head. Notes of rich, roasty malts with molasses and toffee, dark chocolate, rum, spicebox, coconut, drying wood, a bit of fruit. Somewhat sweet but balanced, finishing fairly dry, rum, spices and wood well-balanced into the finish with no noticeable alcohol. Medium full body, average carbonation. Very well-made as you'd expect, the barrel integration is deft but hardly retiring. Strong base beer. Great stuff.

Sampled from the tap at GTMW 2017. Pours dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of run and coconut with sweet dark grains and roasted malts supporting. Flavor has a ton of coconut, rum and roasted malts with dark grains and a bit of almond backing.

Tap@MBCC May 2017, Copenhagen - black pour with a beige head. Sweet and roasted malty with rich chocolate, roasted coffee, some toffee and caramel sweetness, interplay of vanilla and rum infused wooden nuances in the warming finish.
