This can is coming from the sterk, Amsterdam, opening it yesterday, at Epalinges after to come back from the Vaudoise arena. As usual, I was not disappointed with the Russians craft beers, smooth and subtle black ipa, rather dry, smooth malt, a bit roasty, 04.03.23

Virtually black with a creamy, beige head. Aroma a mix of pine, chocolate and ashes, and comes together nicely. Taste is sharply bitter with a finish that mildens slightly to just plain bitter with a hint of toffee sweetness underneath. Medium-bodied, balanced carbonation, good chewiness. A bit too intensely bitter for my mild tastes, but otherwise well done.

Can at home from Sterk, Amsterdam, 29th September 22. Great to get a Russian Double Black IPA, and I love St Petersberg in particular. The beer pours a deep black. Aroma is roasted malts, cocoa and liquorice. Taste is bitter, cocoa, liquorice, cola, soy, roasted malts, it’s a beast of a beer and a very good BIPA.

500ml can from Share House in Moscow. Pours opaque black with a frothy beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, piney hops and alcohol. Taste is light sweet, boozey, pine, roasted malt, ash, watery. Heavy bitter and alcoholic finish. Light bodied for 8.5% but hard to drink at the same time. Bakunin made a pig’s ear of this beer while cashing in on the almost complete absence of Black IPAs in Russia.
