Notes from June 2010 This particular sample case has been contract brewed up in Utica with 400 other recipes. Costco usually just rebrands things(albeit, quality name brands) so I'm wondering if anyone can guess what this stuff is yet. Best by June 28 2010 Poured into a Carlsberg Pilsener glass. Generic honey amber color. Just a bit milky, so I probably disturbed the sediment some. The yeast falls out pretty quickly though. Thin eggshell white head, but not much of it. There's too much wasted space up top, so I cap the glass off with 4-5 more ounces. :) Smell is white bread, honey, subtle white pepper, & just a touch of citric acid. Shy, leafy hops. Boring & stale. Taste has more going for it. Little bit of coriander, little bit of caraway, lots of starchy husks & hulls. Grainy. Grassy hops. No real pungent phenols like banana or clove that I'd associate with Hefes. No aftertaste besides a little glass. Carbonation is almost right on, but is still a little thin & irritating like a force-carbed draught beer, & doesn't deliver that creamy feel I was expecting. A bland American Hefeweizen without the hop bite. That is what this is. I drank two without flinching though, so it's not terrible. If CostCo can get stock it for a bit less(I think it was $21/cs), then maybe I'll give it another shot.

Slightly cloudy yellow-orange color with a medium thin and foamy white head that diminishes quickly. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of toasty malt and bananas. Light-bodied with flavors of grainy malt, banana and wheat. The finish is overripe fruit and malt. Below average overall.

Bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Pours with a very mild haze and a large, fluffy white head that collapses quickly. Aromas are of oxidation, bready, wheat, banana esters and a very mild phenol. Flavors are of suntan lotion, oxidation and grainy wheat notes with mild esters. Lively bubbles, dry and thin. I think this might be an older bottle.

Costco: Pours a slightly clouded orange body with a white head. Aroma of sugary bubblegum and a little bit of citrus. Reminded me more of a mediocre American Wheat than of a proper German hefeweizen. Drinkable, but thoroughly mediocre. My least favorite Kirkland brew.

From a case picked up at the Clearwater Costco. Pours deep gold with copper hues and thin white head. The aroma is modest in strength with wheat and smooth sweet banana followed by lesser amounts of spicy yeastiness and some grains. The taste is a bit prickly and bright with carbonation pushing up notes of spicy hops running into wheat and then mild notes of grainy malts. By midway a moderate level of sweet banana and yeast help take it to the finish. Forgettable hefe really.

12 oz bottle into English pint. Grainy, tangy, bland aroma. Pours hazy orange with minimal head, creamy lacework. Flavor is wheat, slightly acidic, bland. Medium carbonation. Completely American in style rather than German. Probably the most mediocre Hefe I’ve ever had. I’ve had worse--see Firestation, but I’ve had so much better--Sierra Nevada Kellerweiss, for example. Completely average.

Bottle - straight from my buddy’s garage fridge. Really, I should have known better. Pale golden yellow color with a decent sand-colored head. Not much of an aroma, just malty sweet. Maybe a hint grassey. The taste is a mess of grain, lager malt, yeast, and cloves. Even at 5.5% I can sense the alcohol. Just doesn’t cut it.
