Can from Tick Beer. Black pour with small fizzy beige head, minimal retention. Classic meaty stout aroma with plenty of roast, beef stock, coffee, dark chocolate, some berry tang and sweetness to balance. Tangy and bitter through the flavour with roast, powdered chocolate and a touch of berry. Again, balanced by a decent sweetness and not as stocky as expected although arguably a bit too simple in taste. Still tasty which is the main thing.

Cask at Petersgate Tap, Stockport. Pours almost black with a sizeable tan head and good lacing. There’s a powerful aroma of roasted malts, plus some hints of oats. This combination again in the mouth, though here the oats are more noticeable. It is slightly sweet, with glavours of cola, dandelion and burdock and hints of dark fruits. Ginish is slightly sweet. This is very nice indeed.

Can from the Thirst Class Brewery Webshop. Black pour with a tan head. Strong coffee aromas, lots of dark chocolate, toffee, touch of smoke. Flavours of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice toffee, burnt toast. Roasty dry finish. Rather nice.

From cask, third at Manchester Beer & Cider Festival, Brewery Bars. Shared with Finn. Jet black in the glass, shiny naked surface, scattered lacing. Promising aromas of chocolate malts, dry. Fine blended malt-driven taste of chocolate and dark bread. Mildly roasted ending with a bite of coffee. Likable. (2nd day of the festival 23.01.2020).

Hand-pulled pint at The Pheasant Inn, Wellington, Shropshire on 19th Oct 2019. Black bodied, tanned topping. Malty goodness abounds in this coffee and chocolate tasting Stout. Not too sweet, not too bitter, nice balance.
