This blend is a spirited synthesis of two imperial stout recipes that were aged in Heaven Hill, Blanton's, Basil Hayden, Booker's, and Bliss barrels, without adjuncts. Two barrels that contained a double barreling of the Sending Vibrations blend lend soft notes of vanilla-laden honey and robust oak spice. Rings Of Splendor exhibits tones of dark chocolate, vanilla, and double-roast coffee beans on the palate, a classic expression of barrel-aged stout.

Dark brown. Not much head. Rich bourbon aroma, with some chocolate and molasses. Rich, boozy on the palate, with sticky dark burnt sugars. Lots of bourbon - I can't say any barrel stands out but there's a lot of barrel here, lots of alcohol and a mellow vanilla. Overall, sweet and strong, and quite aggressive.

500ml (thx, Brian S.!) @ Ryan's. Appearance: dark brown with a bit of beige head. Aroma: a nice mix of sweetness. bourbon, American oak, and a little bit of dark fruits. Taste: quite thick, multi-layered bourbon, lots of brown sugars, moderately sweet. Overall: pretty impressive for a non-adjunct BBA Imperial Stout.

Bottle. Pours a deep, opaque mahogany with a medium beige head with decent lacing and residual. Aroma iss chocolate, vanilla, oak tannin, bourbon, fudge, coffee grounds, tobacco, and molasses. Flavor is medium plus sweet, light bitter, well integrated and bursting with flavor. Full body, silky mouthfeel. This is how you barrel age a beer.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is malt forward and rich with layers of dark chocolate, dark caramel, toffee and lighter notes of roast and toasted grains. Lighter notes of vanilla and dark espresso. Light oak notes and bourbon character with light alcohol spice. Pours jet black with a small, thick, creamy, dark mocha head that recedes steadily to a small, thick, film that lingers on the edges. Light lacing and long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of dark chocolate, dark caramel, espresso and lighter notes of toasted bread, toffee and vanilla. Hints of ash and tobacco. Moderately bitter with medium alcohol notes. Lingering dark chocolate and espresso notes in the finish. Medium light bourbon notes and faint oak. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, a really solid BA stout. Great stout character with solid supporting barrel notes. Definitely boozy, but not so much that it's hard to drink.
