330ml can. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, bubbly tan head. The aroma is roasty, light caramel. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, with a light, watery, dry roasty light spicy coffee, light liquorice bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Disappointing.

Aroma is big dungy roast, ashy, roasted barley, farmyard roast, Flavour is composed of semi drying ashy roast, farmyard roast, light ashy roast, bitter roasted barley. Fairly punchy for the low abv. Palate is dry, fine carbonation. Little harsh.

Can from Beer52 and brings up my 100th beer in this style. Pours black with frothy near tanned head. Aroma of roasted malt with smoke, coffee, some sweetness and light peppery hop. The roasted malt and light smokiness comes through clearly with some nuttiness. Its dry barley roast, black pepper and sweetish brown sugar in the finish. It packs a good flavour for 4% but a nagging thought that it would be even better at 4.5 to 5% was difficult to shake off.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Siren online. Pours clear, deep brown with a small, foamy beige head. Light-medium sweet flavour with sturdy ashy roast, earth, black coffee and cocoa. Light bodied with average carbonation. Balanced finish, dry and pretty clean, bittersweet with ash and baking cocoa, a little burnt rubber. Good, drinkable sessioner.

[33cl can from Beer52.] An opaque glossy black pour with a fast fading tan head; aroma of roasted grains and coffee; quite sweet, but well balanced by the bitterness of the roasted malts; then some milky chocolate and coffee in the finish. A solid stout.
