Brewed by our friends at Newbarns Brewery, in collaboration with Holy Goat. A first foray into mixed-fermentation by Newbarns, made with extra pale malt, and raw wheat from Scotland The Bread in Fife, this relatively simple base beer was co-fermented with our house lager yeast and their mixed culture of wild yeasts and bacteria before being dry-hopped lightly with one of our favourite German hop varieties, Ariana, to make a tart and refreshing Berliner, with notes of bruised cider apple, and green Fruit Pastilles.

(Draught at Mother Kelly's Bethnal Green, London, 11 May 2024) Golden yellow colour with brief, white head. Fruity, sourish nose with notes of lemon, peaches, grass and apples. Fruity, tart taste with citrus, peaches, wood, white bread and grass. No bitterness. Medium body, dry. Tasty and harmonious, with a fresh acidity. Very nice.

Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours straw yellow with a quickly dissipating fizzy white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, tart, dry oak, funky, bright, gooseberry, soor plooms, white grape, tangfastics and damp hay. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, tart, slightly lactic, slight citric acidity, sour white grape, gooseberry, melon, lemon - lime, dry oak, funky and light barnyard with a drying finish. Lighter end of medium body and fine, fizzy carbonation. Well done example of the style. Crispy and quaffable.

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Appearance - golden and clear with frantic bubbles. White head. Nose - lemon, white pepper, dusty, funky wood. Taste - zesty sherbet, more funky wood, sweet spice and candied lemon. Palate - light bodied, then a tight texture, tangy sour with a long, persistent finish. Overall - great to have a Berliner that doesn't have fruit in it.
