Originally a home-brew recipe of our Head Brewer, Greg, our Old Greg’s Barley Wine has become a thing of legend in the Five Points brewing calendar.
Brewed on New Year’s Eve each year, this Barley Wine is made with exclusively English hops; Target, Challenger and East Kent Goldings. Each vintage is bottle-aged for a year before making its way onto shelves, and each brew is a slightly different recipe.
Look out for the boozy sweetness and notes of apricot, jam and marmalade.
Recipe changed and ABV increased to 12.4% in 2018.

330ml bottle from beer-merchants.co.uk. Pours hazy amber with fast receding thin head. Aroma is rather promising, nice and sweet, but the taste is a bit disappointing with a deflated barley wine character, with smudged toffee and dried fruit, falling a bit thin and lacking any real oomph.

Bottle shared at the ’Beers of London’ Tasting MkII, Bespin Cloud City - Hyde Park zone, from Bdawg KX 11/02/15. Lightly hazed orange amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is vanilla custard, fruit rinds, sweet tunes, light perfume, too sweet. Taste comprises bitter dark fruit, mineral notes, sweet tones, toasted sugar. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Nose wasn’t too bad but fell away after that - miss!
