Pours deep gold with slight haze and white head. The aroma is sweet Belgian yeasty spiciness, honey sweetness and a sense of graininess. The taste is honey sweet rolling over a bed of spicy yeasty nails and thin picking up slight graininess from midway on. Toward the finish it picks up a touch of acidic lemon like notes.

Bottle. I’m suspicious... ginger beers seem to work out poorly and this one has had to wait a bit while I think about when to drink it. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a little bit of a head and aromas of dusty grains with the slightest bit of a (subconsciously prompted?) ginger. Flavor is actually pretty decent... a bit of a bland honey buns malt presence with a little bit of ginger that picks up steam and gets stronger as it heads into the late palate. I’m not saying that this is the best ever, but it is a very good beer that has a ginger edge to it...

A lightly hazed blonde ale with a thin white head. A smooth lactic ginger aroma with light lemony notes. In mouth, a good biscuitty malt with nice sharp ginger and lingering bitter hops, smooth and refreshing. On tap at brewery, July 18 2010.

Pours a clear pale orange color with a medium creamy off-white head that diminishes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of ginger and citrus. Light body with a sweet spice character that is primarily ginger and cinnamon. Some malt and hops in the background. The finish is mildly bitter hops with a sweet ginger aftertaste. Just average overall.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joes in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a yellow-golden color with a large foamy white head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was light, dry, bitter and tart with a vague fruitiness. The flavor was dry and bitter with a sweettart candy note and some vague fruits. The finish was long, dry, tart and yeasty. Eh.

12 ounce bottle from the summer sampler. Rated 5/27/10. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium white creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of candied ginger primarily with sweet, bready malts and a very faintly hoppy finish. The taste is pale malts, grass, ginger, candied ginger and faint hops in the finish. Medium bodied.

12oz bottle. Thick, murky orange-tan color. Small, steady white head. Big spiced aroma of sugary ginger. Most beers I’ve had with this much Ginger in them are high in alcohol, whereas this one is pretty simple, with a watery body. Pretty much it is what it is, a Ginger Beer. Lacks much malt complexity, and any hop character is covered up by the ginger. Not bad by any means, just not world class stuff either.

Ha ha, ginger ale get it? Has a slaggy aroma to it on the pop. Matbe there is some wet hay in the olfactory too. Looks rather pale yellow and perhaps some vanilla yella in there. First taste is a little more bittter than I expect for a golden ale. Probably this should be rated as a veggie spice beer, no? Has some flavors of permanent hair treatment in the background, a carry over from the slaggy aroma. Rather friendly once you get over those spices, must be the ginger but not like ginger ale ginger, more like medicinal ginger. Have you ever chewed right on a ginger root? Somewhat of a cooling sensation down the throat. Each swig starts with a mild golden ale flavor that immediately goes bitter from the spice but not hoppy at all. A unique personality fer sure. Finish is average bitter lingering feeling. Grows a little offensive after a few seconds. Wouldn’t it be nice to say you have rated every odd notion?

Variety 12-Pack at Shaws ($18): Hazy light amber color with a quickly dissipating head that leaves a thin layer of lacing. Aroma strikes as almost entirely Belgian yeast and there is a modicum of ginger in there as well. To describe the taste would be to mix an average Belgian ale with a few ounces of ginger ale. Overall, quite sweet with some hop character. Not bad; would drink again I suppose.
