Sampled on draft at Max’s Allegheny Tavern this beer poured almost black with a large foamy tan head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet cola with hints of anise and dark fruit. The flavor was malty and a bit woody with notes of cola and dark fruit. Medium length finish. Medium body and smooth. Better than I expected

This bottle is older, from the original Pgh Brewing. Quite surprizing 12 oz brown bottle with a twist off cap. Unfiltered, causes a swirling effect when you pour because of the gunk on the bottom of the bottle. I never would have thunk that Pgh Brewing would have made an unfiltered beer. Very dark, stoutish appearance. Roasty aroma, attractive olfactory. Initial taste is that of a slight vinegar and porter. A positive impression considering the original augustiner did not really turmn my head. Roasty, mild burned wood flavors. Decent carbonation. Finish lacks any bitter or alky linger. Very good example of a dark friendly beer. Should have tried this sooner. I hope the new owners will keep the recipe the same. Would buy again, nice bargain considering the price.

Deep brown with reddish hues, and moka head, collapsing quickly. Sweet molasses, raisins in aroma, with some wet dog. Plain sweet malt without much character with light nuttiness , and smooth lingering bitterness. Medium bodied but boring.

Dark brown colour with a medium-sized light brown head. Slightly fruity (raisins, plums and peaches) aroma with malt and caramel also noticeable. Light-bodied; Watery mouthful with some malt and caramel present. Aftertaste very mild, with only some malt showing. Overall, not good-just as expected! I got this twelve ounce bottle at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York, but reccomend you don't do the same!
