The aroma rich roasted malt, dark roast, chewy, toothy, umami, liquorice, charred, ashy, dark chocolate, cacao nibs, burnt toast, riesen chocolate, toffee crisp, fruit cake, dark fruits, plums and prunes. The taste is dry, bitter, rich roasted malt, toothy, charred, coffee grounds, dark roast, umami, liquorice, dark fruits, plum, prune, dandelion & burdock, splash of Dr Pepper, slick, oily, peppery spice, dark chocolate and a touch of alcohol with a lingering bitter roast finish. Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Cork & Cask. Pours black-brown with a lively, foaming beige head. Medium sweet flavour, lots of hard ashy roast, lightly tangy cherry, bitter dark chocolate, earth, raisins. Medium to full bodied, lightly oily, with active, massaging carbonation. Mellow warmth in the finish, bitter cocoa, black coffee, more raisins, dirt, ashy roast. Nice old-school impy stout.

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Black body with a tan head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and Marmite. Flavour of treacle, caramel and rich, roasted malt. Full body with a thick, chewy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Bold and well balanced. Simple Things are putting out some excellent beers recently; this is possibly the best of them.
