12oz. bottle from Woodman’s, $1.50 loose. I spotted the layer of yeast in the bottle, so carefully poured into the glass. Lots of bubbles, slightly fizzy and puffy head, golden color. Smell does have a little more zest than I’d expected, frankly. But the taste runs a bit below standard. I taste raw wheat grains, not much else. Slightly yeasty, which is understandable, but also a bit rubbery. This could sure have used some hops, some more malts. Something.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-golden color with a medium sized foamy white head that faded quickly and produced some lacing. The aroma was dryish, musty, citric and a bit bready. The flavor was dry, musty, citric and tangy with a light bready, wheaty undertone. Medium dry musty and bready finish. Medium body. Ok.

12oz bottle. Hazy, cloudy, yellow-orange color. Steady, thin white head. This beer isn’t world class, but it is one thing : a macro saison that manages to capture some of the essence of the style. Sure, it falls short a little bit in the malt category, a little too watery. Sure, the carbonation/effervescence can’t compare to a Belgian. Negatives aside there is a funky lemony wheat flavor that is pretty likable, especially for a Horny Goat product. Creamy easy finish. OK.

A saison eh? More like a wheat with balls. Smell is rather sweet with hints of citrus perhaps mildly orange. Has a strong candylike sweetness going on there on the taste bud too. Cannot be in the same cat as jolly pumkin bam or silly, no? Could be a lttle more farmy, eh? Goatlike in that you’ll probably get harny after a few of these. Comes on much stronger than the 4.9% listed, Lots of gunk on the bottom of the bottle. Easy twist off cap on a brown bottle. If you make this barrel aged then you can put a barrel on ’er label.

Bottle with twist off cap. I’m a little bitter and jaded after my last two \"Horny Goat\" experiences, so I’m not going into this with a truly open mind. Body is a hazy gold with a thin head and aromas are a little dubious... a bit of cloves and lemons, and in the background is a landfill-type aroma that I’m beginning to associate with the label. Still, the landfill scent is faint enough that there is some hope. Flavor is some form of redemption for the brand... it isn’t great and has a distinctly adjunct side to it, but it does have a bit of niceness to it. A bit of lemon and some faint cloves, a honey sweetness... It is watery and washed out, but not awful... this is the best Goat.
