Aged on oak since fall (and then conditioned in the cold liquor tank for months, there’s ingenuity!), and fortified with Halifax Distilling Co‘s J.D. Shore Black Rum, this year’s outrageously delicious rebirth of a Nash classic should have been subtitled “Rum Cake.” It’s slightly sweet, full of dark fruit, and has hints of bitter chocolate, and you need it! At 11.6%, the Commissar is in charge! Drink while seated. Fuck heavy machinery: do not operate any machinery!

5oz pour at brewery. Pours black with beige head. Aroma has dark chocolate and espresso, rum. Flavour has dark chocolate, espresso, rum. Pretty smooth mouthfeel. That's really good stuff.

Poured from the tap. Black with minimal beige head. Boozy average tasting rum, chocolate, roast malt underlay. Way too boozy and could use a touch more body. Had to lower the rating as I kept trying to sip it - unbalanced booziness, left half the 4 oz pour.

It's black, with a light head. I don't think there's any haze - alles klar? Roasty, toasty, and there's definitely some rum sweetness up front on the nose. Lots of bitterness as well. I'm liking the balance here. It ends up as a solid impy, with an accent.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some dry bitter notes and light rum notes are also noticeable. Taste is a mix of dry bitter roasted malt notes with some black chocolate notes and some rum notes with light residual sugar notes are also noticeable. Body is somewhat full with good carbonation with some warming alcohol notes. God but dryer then I was expecting.
