Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Black with a beige head. Not served in the best condition. Soapy with a little smoke. Smooth mouthfeel with some nice roasted malt, but also a slight sourness. It feels a little raw, and the soapiness didn't help. Didn't feel this was served in particularly good condition. It's odd that berkshirejohn had it in the same place and on the same day, and had such a different experience, but then I've never really liked this brewer's beers. It's odder that berkshirejohn seems to often be in the same place as me on the same day and yet I've never met him & don't know who he is - maybe I've got a stalker!

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A shiny peat brown coloured pour with a tight tan head; aroma of richly roasted malts and brown sugar; milky mouthfeel with a toasted grain taste and a smoky bitterness; then a dry finish with some acrid smoke and a gentle warmth. A proper porter.
