Brewed and released just once a year, each Barrel Aged Empress Tonkoko release spends at least 12 months in a unique selection of barrels.
Rye Whiskey was selected to add molasses, spice, and rich oak to add depth to an already deeply decadent beer. Be sure to check out our other variants of Barrel-Aged Empress Tonkoko!

Black beer, thin head. Smells of tonka, rye and malt. Flsvour has a big hit of tonka, sweet malts, a dash of coffee, some chocolate, wood. Rich, with a hint of alcohol burn lingering and some wood, but the tonka and malt hang around as well. Rich, warming and delicious.

Can at the international beer bar. I've only ever had the regular empress which is amazing. Aroma here has the same Tonka intensity, a tad of wood beneath this but not much. Full-bodied. Flavour is malty, sweet and rich, complex and balanced. Again intense Tonka, but balanced, light rye spiciness especially in the finish, some wood, vanilla. Lovely.

Panda thanks to Cloin. Pretty much a clear deep brown amber beer, small bubbly tan head. Smooth and mildly dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth and slightly candyish dark malts, candyish dark chocolate. Sugar icing. Fruity dark chocolate and whiskey barrel infused dark fruits. A little vanilla towards the end, produces a modest milk chocolate. Pretty tidy.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 17/02/24. Lighter shade of black with a khaki cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is roast malts, spice, charr, dried fruit esters, rye barrel, molasses, cocoa sprinkle. Taste comprises tonka bean, spice, earthy roast, charr, molasses, rye barrel, chocolate. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. Another solid BA offering from this series, the Tonka is well tamed for those who are not fans.
