A beer to be savoured and sipped to appreciate evolving layers of flavour.

It is a deep, rich, complex, intense, strong black beer. Mouthfeel is full bodied. Chocolate, coffee and roasted flavours are at the forefront, dark stone fruit is in the background. The finish is bitter-sweet and warming.

Gravicask, 8.2 % abv, half-pint, shared with Finn. Fair tan head over a jet black body, fragile lacing. Rich aromas of roasted black chocolate. Rich flavours as well, coffee-chocolate added by a note of liquorice. Lingering roasted malty ending, on the sweet side. Fine depth to it. Nice.

Second session at the 44th Liverpool Beer Festival, Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt

Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Light semi dry and fairly smooth palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a little dark malt cream. Trace of chocolate but the dominant flavour from mid to finish is a bitter salty licorice thing. Modest ripe fruits before a light finish. Long spicy bitter linger. Nah! Not my kind of RIS, thin and aggressive in an unpleasant way. Twiggy on PCP.
