It is a deep, rich, complex, intense, strong black beer. Mouthfeel is full bodied. Chocolate, coffee and roasted flavours are at the forefront, dark stone fruit is in the background. The finish is bitter-sweet and warming.

Bottle ahead in Kensal Rise. Pours deep brown with a dense, creamy beige head. Big dark malt snout, roast, chocolate. Medium sweet flavour with ashy roast, bittersweet cocoa, raisins. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Nicely balanced finish with further notes of dried fruits, scorched earth, hearty cocoa, roast, vanilla. Great stuff.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Black body with a thin tan head. Good lacing. Aroma of chocolate cake, plum, nuts and creamy cappuccino. Flavour of coffee, dark chocolate, woody malts and a light hoppy edge. Medium body with a prickly, tingling fizz. A solid beer but it’s a bit on the thin side.

Bottle from Beerhive. Pours opaque dark brown with a short-lived thin tan head. Aromas of liquorice, chocolate, light fruity booze notes. Taste is more of the same, faint whiff of smoke. Clean finish.

Keg at Brewdog clerkenwell. Opaque black coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Aroma is slightly weird, salty liquorice, treacle, fruity eaters, hints of chocolate malts. Maybe signs of a stressed ferment on the nose. Flavour is composed of big fruity strawberry shortcake, raspberry ripple and chocolate, bitter liquorice, coffee. Palate is full bodied, medium sweet, rounded, moderate carbonation. Little lingering woody roast In the finish. Interesting beer.
