Dry, syrupy and slightly earthy with some barrel, oak, toffee, caramel and bourbon vanilla notes. Heavy and intense, slightly warming finish. Pretty good.

Bottle. Pours clear mahogany small tan head, good lacing. Aroma is bourbon, cocoa, leather, dates, earth, vanilla. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter. Medium body. Great, as would be expected from brad.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is malt forward with lots of dark caramel and toffee notes. Lighter notes of toasted bread, chocolate and faint notes of roast and molasses. Medium light bourbon and alcohol notes with hints of oak. Pours a very dark brown but not quite black with a medium sized, thick, mocha head that recedes steadily to the edges where a small film lingers. No lacing and long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of caramel and toffee notes. Lighter notes of toasted bread, treacle, chocolate and faint roast and molasses notes. Medium bitterness and medium alcohol notes. Medium light bourbon notes and light oak notes. Light raisin and prune notes with hints of anise and soy sauce. Mouthfeel is full bodied and silky with medium light carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really nice barleywine. Lots of malt character with a great body. Bourbon notes and alcohol are nice and well integrated with the malt. A bit of a dark fruit note in the flavor which I don't love.
